Welcome

Welcome to our dog blog – a site dedicated to the canine component of our family!

We began researching dog breeds when our youngest child was 7 years old, feeling a need to add another dimension to our family. It was not a decision we took lightly, and being a research junkie, I spent hours poring over websites and researching dog breeds to find a perfectly compatible new family member.

As a child, our family dog was a mutt (now considered a designer hybrid “Terri-poo”). Duffy was believed to be a mix of some kind of terrier (I suspect a Cairn) and Miniature Poodle. Since then, I’ve always been drawn to terriers, especially the Scottish varieties (Cairns, Scotties, and Westies). We narrowed it down to Cairns and Westies (Scotties tend to bond primarily with just one person), and preferred the slightly larger sturdiness that is characteristic of a West Highland White Terrier.

A few months later we found Milo and to follow the expression that Westies are like potato chips (it’s hard to just have one) we added Stella to our family just 9 months later.  Westies are true pack animals and are undyingly devoted to their human pack.  Because of this, a singular Westie will often be stuck to their family “pack” members like glue.  This is one reason why you often see Westies in pairs.  They love the companionship of other dogs, as they were bred to hunt in packs.

Westies are a truly amazing breed.  A big dog in a small body - intensely loyal, lovers of people and canines alike, agile, athletic, brave, and devoted.  We couldn’t imagine our family without them.
